ABOUT US
Little Fish Swim School Norwich recognises that all children learn in different ways and at different speeds. We are experienced in teaching with a variety of learning outcomes, from simple water confidence to swimming at a competitive level. We run our own swimming plan which allows swimmers to progress at their own speed. Our plan does not require a termly assessment that takes any time away from learning and fun, instead we will move swimmers when they are individually ready.
WHAT WE OFFER
We have casual Adult & Child swimming sessions, suitable from 0 years old, perfect for parents and guardians who wish to get their little ones in the water as soon as possible. We will guide you through the techniques you need to help achieve water confidence for your child in a relaxed environment. When your child is ready they will be invited to move to the next level, typically at around 3.5-4 years old. Adult & Child sessions are available on Sunday mornings. They are a completely optional level are not a requirement for our Beginners lessons.
In our Beginners Learn to Swim lessons we have the lowest possible teacher:children ratios you will find in any class in Norwich at 8:2 and our teachers will be in the water with your children keeping them safe as they learn. We will work on their water confidence with fun and repetition, beginning with swimming 10m on their front and back with floats, and building to 10m without floats. They will also be taught safely and confidently to pick things up from the bottom of the pool, and to safely and confidently jump in to the pool too. They will be ready to move on to the next stage when they have perfected these skills and been awarded with their 5m and 10m swimming certificates.
Our Intermediate Class has a maximum ratio of 10:1. These children must have completed either our Beginner Learn to Swim lessons or level 3/4 from previous lessons elsewhere. In this class we add more skills and strokes to the swimmers repertoire by introducing breaststroke and dolphin/butterfly strokes, skulling and deep water orientation. This will gently prepare your swimmer for deep water and give them the confidence that every child needs.
The Deep End Class has a maximum ratio of 10:1. These children must have completed our Intermediate Class or level 5/6 from previous lessons elsewhere. This class adds the style and finesse to your child's swimming. They will also learn to dive safely in a number of ways and the main focus is to get them to complete the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum target of 25m. Our 25m venue is the perfect environment for this and the swimmers will receive a certificate for the 25m distance when achieved.
Our Lengths Class has a maximum ratio of 12:1. These children must have completed our Deep End Class or level 6/8 from previous lessons elsewhere. This session is for swimmers who are truly loving swimming and want to improve on their stamina. It is our target that all swimmers can swim up to 200m without stopping by the end of their swimming experience with us. This shows a true mastery of swimming and will give you the confidence that your child is completely safe in water, opening the door to their next level of adventure from snorkelling to paddle-boarding, sailing to kayaking, they will have the skills and experience to enjoy the rest of their life around water with a happy and safe mindset.
We also offer 1 Hour Swim sessions. Some children just love swimming for the feeling it gives them. They feel good, being good at swimming. We provide sessions for swimmers to come along and swim for up to an hour for fun and fitness. This can be progressed for up to 3 sessions a week.
For swimmers wishing to take their swimming to the next level, and test their skills in competitions, we have our Competitive Swimming. We give our swimmers the chance to compete at local and county level competitions in a relaxed fun setting. Our core group of regular swimmers are a friendly welcoming club, known as The Piranhas, who will help any new swimmer into the world of competitive swimming. Our coaching team led by Toby Ketland (ex top 10 ranked in the country for 1500m freestyle and county 100m butterfly champion) will develop your child's full swimming potential with an individual training plan tailored to your child's strengths and targets.
We operate for 45 weeks of the year (46 for our Competitive Swimmers) which will include 2 fun sessions a year; one before the Summer holidays and one before the Christmas holidays. To prepare our swimmers from Intermediate Level upwards, for any possible swimming experiences or situations, we will run 5/6 lessons after May Half Term of personal survival and lifesaving classes where swimmers will experience swimming in clothes and without goggles to give swimming another important application.
SEN Swimming
Little Fish Norwich will always endeavour to integrate SEND students into our regular classes. However, if student has 1:1 support at school they will need this provision in the pool. We can offer 1:1 lessons with patient and understanding experienced instructors, who will talk with you as the child's Parent or Guardian, to develop a plan to create the best possible learning experience for your child.
